Member Meeting Minutes

Call to Order President Anne Billeter called the meeting to order at 1:30 pm. A quorum was declared with 16 members present and 9  on Zoom for a total of 25. The meeting was in person and via Zoom.
Approval of Minutes  Mary Robsman moved to approve the February 2025 minutes. Dorothy Cotton seconded. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report 
Total income                    $ 2,747.22
Total expense                  $ 3,064.24
Net operating income    $   -317.02
Net income                      $   -308.59
Valerie will make updates and corrections.

Bylaws Change
Kim Thurman reviewed the change in bylaws regarding RVGS taking the minimal distribution from the Oregon Community Foundation. If you have any questions, please direct to Kim. Members have 30 days to review the adjustment. The Board will vote in April.

Member Sharing 
  • Mary Robsman updated the members that the Colleen Eccleston project is winding down and that 681 file folders have been digitized.
  • Rich Miles shared that the Oregon Bottle Drop’s latest promotion will run from April 15 to 26. Blue bags are in the lobby.
  • Kim Thurman stated that she discovered new resources in the New York Municipal Archives, including the 1890 police census (unindexed) and photos compiled in 1940 for tax purposes.

Quilt Program Anne Billeter reminded members of the April 24 “Maryum’s Yellow Rose” program. The raffle quilt winner will be drawn.

Program Kathie Ordahl and Mary Robsman presented a dialog bringing to life Tabitha Moffat Brown, the “Mother of Oregon.”

  1. Education – The class that was canceled due to the February snowstorm, “Creating Genetic Networks from DNA Matches” has been re-scheduled on Thursday, April 17, 10:30 AM - Noon, with in person practice session from 1:00 to 3:00 PM
  2. Membership - Loretta Barker - Membership stands at 632. 
  3. Technology & Data Management – NewspaperArchive continues to be used steadily, with 81 newspapers from 19 states accessed in February. 
  4. Volunteer - Ann Baracker - We currently have 76 volunteers. In February they reported 705 hours. We continue to run ads in the eNews to recruit volunteers for open positions.
  5. Library - Anne Billeter - The annual Library Collection report has been posted to the website: rvgslibrary.org > Library > Our Library > Click here for the most recent Library Collection Report.

  • Next Board Meeting:  Monday, April 14, at 9:30 AM at the library and by zoom. Members welcome!

  • Let’s Talk Genealogy: Wednesday, April 16, 1:30 - 3:00 PM, facilitated by Rich Cunningham. Zoom only. 
  • Quilts and Genealogy: Thursday, April 24, 1:00 - 2:00 PM, “Maryum’s Yellow Rose” by Anne Billeter 
Upcoming Classes:  
Online pre-registration is required at www.rvgslibrary.org by noon the day before. Classes are now available as hybrid: register to receive Zoom link or view in the library. Practice Sessions do not require registration and are in person only. 
  • Genealogy 101 - Manuscripts, Genealogies, Periodicals - Thursday, April 10, 10:30 AM- Noon, In Person AND 6:00 - 7:30 PM Zoom - Barbara Northrop 
  • Creating Genetic Networks from DNA Matches - Thursday, April 17, 10:30 AM-Noon with in person practice session, 1:00 - 3:00 PM - Jeanne Hoadley. 
  • NOTE:  Fridays in April and May the RVGS Library will be a busy place, especially from 11:30 - 12:30, as OLLI students will be practicing what they are learning in a six week long “Introduction to Genealogy” course.
