Member Meeting Minutes

Call to Order -  President Anne Billeter called the meeting to order at 1:33 pm. A quorum was declared with 12 members present and 5 on Zoom for a total of 17. The meeting was in person and via Zoom.

Approval of Minutes  
Loretta Barker moved to approve the June 2025 Meeting Minutes. Valerie Sanders seconded. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report 
Total income                   $ 4,882.25
Total expense                 $ 3,128.25
Net operating income   $ 1,754.00
Net income                     $ 1,796.29
Year to Date        A better format is being discussed.

Presentation of Proposed Budget for 2026 -Valerie Sanders. The proposed budget will be voted on by members at the October 21 meeting. It will be posted on the website and on the library bulletin board.

Nominating Committee Report - Anne Billeter presented the report of the Nominating Committee. Officer nominees are:  President - Frank Marksman, Vice President - Ros Lyne, Secretary -Cathy Ullrich, Treasurer - Valerie Sanders, Trustee - Patt Herdklotz. Members will vote on October 21.

Member Sharing - Kim Thurman shared that a friend of hers is the 3rd-great-grandson of a family she’s researching.

Business Meeting Adjourned 1:33 by President Anne Billeter.

Jeanne Hoadley presented a program on her discoveries in the Jean Maack Collection.

Summary Reports
  1. Education – Jeanne Hoadley - FREE Genealogy Week is September 22-27, with Six classes with practice sessions each afternoon, Monday - Saturday.
  2. Membership - Loretta Barker - Membership stands at 593. The Genie program statistics reveal that of the 53 new members who joined RVGS in the last year, 23 took advantage of the Genie program and received an orientation to the RVGS Library, and 20 of the 53 were out of area. 35 former members rejoined RVGS.  Most of the rejoiners did not wish an orientation tour.
  3. Volunteer - Ann Baracker - We currently have 77 volunteers and have a number of vacant positions.
  4. Technology and Data Management - Rich Miles - Google Analytics revealed a number of interesting statistics about robust use of the RVGS website. It was also evident that many used the website briefly, probably to confirm details about an upcoming event or about hours and location.

  • Roundtable: Brick Wall Roundtable: Wednesday, September 17, 1:30 - 3:00 PM.
  • Next Board Meeting:  Monday, October 13, at 9:30 AM at the library and by zoom.
  • Next Program & Member Meeting:  Tuesday, October 21 at 1:30 PM, “Citizen Transcription Project.” 
Upcoming Classes:  Online pre-registration is required at www.rvgslibrary.org by noon the day before.
  • Genealogy Week: Monday, September 22 - Saturday, September 27. FREE. See separate handout.
  • Genealogy 101: Thursday, October 9: “Beginning Your Genealogical Research” In Person, 10:30 AM - Noon; By Zoom, 6:00 - 7:30 PM
  • “Introduction to Find My Past”, Thursday, October 16, 10:30 - Noon; Practice Session, 1:00 - 3:00 PM 
  • Upcoming Seminar: Saturday, October 25, 10:30 AM - 2:00 PM - “Researching British Ancestors” - Paul Milner
