CALL TO ORDER:  President Kim Thurman called the meeting to order at 1:35 p.m. via Zoom; a quorum was established.  Kim welcomed everyone to our April Members’ meeting.  Kim encouraged the many non-members attending this meeting to check out our website and to discover the advantages of becoming a member.
 
MINUTES APPROVAL:  The minutes of the March 16, 2021, Members Meeting were presented by Secretary Loretta Barker.  There were no corrections.    Motion:  Pat Jenkins moved that the minutes be accepted as presented; Barbara Halvorsen seconded.  Motion passed.
 
TREASURER’S REPORT.  The Treasurer’s Report dated March 31, 2021, was presented by Kim Thurman in absence of Treasurer, Barbara Shrewsberry.

It was noted that the Library was closed the entire month of March, 2021, due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
 
Member Sharing- None this month.
 
Board Actions.  Kim noted that our current membership stands at 736 people.  She reviewed the Board actions as shown on the Agenda and noted the classes, seminars, and Interest Groups that were coming up.  She further noted that although the library is closed, curbside pickup is available.  She also noted that everyone should check out our website for current classes and interest groups meeting dates and times.
 
Program.  Andrea Patterson introduced our guest speaker today, Deb Root Shell, President of the Greater Cleveland Genealogical Society, who will be telling us the story of the Root Family.  Deb is from Washington County, Ohio, and the Root family started in Decatur Township in Indiana.  Sidney Root is her great-great-grandfather and until recently she had no idea who his father was.  In 1636 two Root brothers arrived in New England.  She located a Nestor Genealogy book, which contained a lot of Root genealogy, although she wasn’t sure it was all correct.  She was then contacted by a cousin named Patricia Sue Root Waterman, who referenced this book again in her sources.  Deb still has not been able to verify her great-great-grandfather’s father, but is almost certain it is one of the Root brothers who arrived in New England.  If she is correct, she and her new cousin are a little more distant cousins than first thought.
 
Andrea thanked Deb very much for her presentation.  Kim Thurman again thanked her for her very informative presentation.
 
Closing.  Kim adjourned the meeting at 2:48 p.m.  The next Member Meeting will be on May 18, 2021.  She also reminded us of Saturday’s Seminar, Research Like a Pro by Diana Elder, and noted the wonderful door prizes that will be available.
