INSTALLATION OF 2022 RVGS Directors  President Kim Thurman introduced the incoming directors:  Anne Billeter, Library Director; Rich Miles, Technology and Data Management Director; Margaret Clark-Mayfield (Katie Haugse standing in for Margaret), Membership Director;  Pat Jenkins, Co-Education Director; Barbara Halvorsen, Co-Education Director, and Anne Billeter, Past President.  Kim read the responsibility of duties to each incoming director and they each, in turn, replied yes.  Kim Thurman declared the 2022 Directors installed.

MEMBER SHARING  Rich Miles told us that a few years ago he had connected with a 2nd cousin on Facebook after a DNA match; their common ancestor was their great uncle Cedric Vogel.  This new cousin actually stopped by to visit Rich on a recent trip so they were able to meet in person.  He told Rich that a TV producer from Vancouver, who is planning to do a story regarding their great-uncle Cedric Vogel for the History Channel in Canada, would get in touch with him regarding any information Rich might have about his great uncle.  The program is similar to the PBS show “Finding Your Roots.”  The program will be about WWII veterans and Uncle Cedric was a POW in Germany during the time of the Great Escape.  Uncle Cedric did not attempt to escape because the Germans were treating the Canadians very well.

BOARD ACTIONS  2022 classes are almost all scheduled—keep your eyes on our website for information.  We have 682 members at the present time.  Pioneer and Early Settler certificates can now be applied for online.  The library collection inventory has been completed.

FUTURE EVENTS
January 26 there is another writing class by Dina Carson.  February 2, 2022, is a seminar by Jane Neff Rollins.  February 15 Barbara Northrop will present “Chasing Jasper” at our member meeting.

PROGRAM  Barbara Halvorsen introduced Barbara Northrop, a Board-Certified Genealogist.  She is presently RVGS Education Committee Seminar Coordinator, facilitator of our new Genealogy Newbie Interest Group, and outgoing Board Trustee.  Barbara gave us a fascinating walk through her journey to becoming a Certified Genealogist.  She told us that she attended Salt Lake City Community College, graduating in 2016 with a Genealogy Certificate.  After graduating she continued to take as many classes, seminars, etc., as she could to continue her education.  She decided to become serious about this and on January 3, 2017, submitted her application to become board certified.  This gave her one year to complete the program; however, she renewed her application three times.  She did say that she needed that deadline to push her. She also said that ProGen was the  best course she took to hone her writing skills.  On March 3, 2021, she submitted her completed portfolio--and waited and waited!!  On August 23, 2021, she became certified.  Hooray!

CLOSING/ADJOURNMENT Kim thanked Barbara for sharing her story with us.

Meeting adjourned at 2:51 p.m.

Loretta Barker, Secretary
