Members Meeting and Program Minutes
17 January 2023 (via Zoom)
Call to Order: President Katie Haugse called the meeting to order at 1:35 pm via Zoom; a quorum was established. Katie welcomed everyone to the January Members Meeting.
 
Minutes Approval: The minutes for the November 15, 2022 Members Meeting were presented by Secretary, Cathy Ullrich.
Motion: Pat Jenkins moved that the minutes of the November 15, 2022 Members Meeting be approved as submitted. Rich Miles seconded. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s Report for the period ending November 30, 2022 was read by President Katie Haugse.
 
It was noted a grant of $1000 from OCF was received for the hybrid classroom upgrade. Owl fundraiser exceeded the goal and netted $2169.50. In addition, $2200 was received through fund drive donations. Dues brought in an additional $1400 for the month of December. The BottleDrop income in December was $434.40.
 
Noteworthy expenses were $1300 for 2021 tax preparation by Cramer & Associates.
 
            Total income December:                    $8509.17
            Total expenses December:                $3259.14
            Net income:                                         $5489.95
 
Members were thanked for their generous contributions of $2189 for the Owl purchase. Two units, dubbed “Owlbert1” and “Owlberta2” by Rich Miles, will be installed in the meeting and classroom.
 
Announcements: The following Directors were presented and installed by President Katie Haugse per Article 5, Section 6 of the bylaws:

            Anne Billeter - Library Director and Past President
            Margaret Clark-Mayfield - Membership Director

Member Sharing: Chris Mason has secured a grant of $1000 to upgrade classroom hybrid ability. Additional funds of $3000 are being sought from other sources.
President Katie Haugse reported that the building’s gutters have been cleaned.
 
Board Actions/Director Summaries:
 
            Education Committee:  Barbara Halvorsen & Pat Jenkins – Next Education Meeting is Feb 6 at 9:30 AM would like anyone wishing to contribute or join the committee welcome!  Presented the RVGS Board their annual report:  2022 held 24 classes, 2 workshops, 3 seminars and 10 programs via zoom plus Special Interest Groups!  Started a Or-Cal Genealogical Cooperative with 5 smaller societies and are holding their first class this Thursday! 
 
            Finance: No report
 
            Memberships:  Margaret Clark-Mayfield – Total membership stands at 627 individuals
           
            Technology & Data Management: Rich Miles – All subscription websites (except Ancestry) remain accessible from home via our website.

            Library:  Anne Billeter – Library was open 18 days in December 2022, 108 open hours. Librarians worked 234 hours including completing the library inventory. Our collection now stands at 25,860! Over 2022 over 1500 microfilms were added, they were from the Jackson County Library.

Future Events:
  • Board Meeting: Monday, February 13, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. at the library. Members Welcome!

  • Upcoming Classes & Programs:  Online pre-registration is required at www.rvgslibrary.org to receive a Zoom link the day before the event.
  • Thursday, January 19, 2023, 10:30 a.m. – noon, CLASS: “NEHGS & American  Ancestors” by Claire Vail
  • Saturday, February 4, 2023, 10:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., SEMINAR:  “Migration in America from Colonial Times”, 3 classes by Annette Burke Lyttle
  • Wednesday, February 15, 2023, 10:30 a.m. – noon, CLASS:  “Researching the DAR Website” by Carla Ciegelski
Program: “Who’s in Your Closet?” Members Elsie Deatherage, Rich Miles, Anne Billeter, Cathy Ullrich, Loretta Barker, Pat Jenkins, Muriel Gerlach, and Kaye Ferrara shared fascinating ancestry stories ranging from affairs with queens to speakeasies to bank robbers.
 
Adjourned: The Members Meeting was adjourned at 2:43 pm by President Katie Haugse.
