16 May 2023
Call to Order
 
The May Member Meeting was called to order at 1:31 by President Katie Haugse. A quorum was declared. The meeting was hybrid.
 
Approval of April Minutes
Pat Jenkins moved that we approve the 18 April 2023 Society Member Minutes as written. Lynne Hunter seconded. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report
 
Treasurer Kim Thurman noted that the bulk of our expenses in April were due to the technology upgrades. Although the current bottom line shows a deficit, we remain financially stable.
 
Total Income $2,672.20
Total Expense $6,937.71
Net Income $-4,225.93
 
Member Sharing
 
Rich Miles noted that his great-grandfather was the first Finn to settle in Mullin, Idaho.
 
Katie Haugse shared that she has been able to find her second-great aunt’s obituary in Napa County.
 
Lynne Hunter stated that through the Newspapers.com free posting she was able to solve an adoption question in her family. Lynne thanked Rich Miles for posting the periodic free link to Newspapers.com.
 
Director’s Summary Reports
  1. Education Committee:  Pat Jenkins – Next Education Meeting is June 5th at 9:30 AM in the library.  Anyone wishing to attend is welcome!  Watch the Calendar of Events on the website for updates.
  2. Memberships:  Margaret Clark-Mayfield – Total membership stands at 658 individuals
  3. Technology & Data Management: Rich Miles – All subscription websites (except Ancestry) remain accessible from home via our website. All the patron computers in the library have new hard drives!
  4. Library:  Anne Billeter – Library was open 25 days in April.  Watch for the list of new books recently donated!
  5. Volunteer:  Lynne Hunter – numerous positions are open!  Please complete a Volunteer Application under Support Us on our website.  We need volunteers to assist with Zoom and OWLS: for hybrid classes & meetings.
Program
Robert Hirning presented a comprehensive and enlightening program on the history of railroading in the Rogue Valley.
